How Does it Work?
Management for Effective Diakonia is a virtual event during which content is shared and participants communicate in real-time via internet. In order for interested participants from all over the world and different time zones to join the LWF Virtual Conference on Diakonia, all events in the programme will take place twice.
Most of the content will be presented in the form of videos which will be subtitled in three languages (English, Spanish, French). Participants can comment and take part in discussions via text chat and speakers will respond in real time to questions.
Registration is free and open to all those interested; particularly, to those actively engaged in diakonia or project management as staff or volunteers in LWF member churches and related organizations. Financial contributions of any amount are appreciated to help cover some costs such as internet café allowances for participants who may need such support.
A Computer with an Internet connection and speakers or earphones is required to participate. Participants who do not have these facilities can apply for small grants to visit an Internet Café. Due to limitation of funds, such requests should be received by the LWF-DMD by/before February 22; and will be considered on “first come first served” principle.

Diakonia is the embodiment, through human actions, of God’s love for the world. Knowing that contexts are very different and that diaconal work is guided by a variety of traditions, the aim of the LWF’s Virtual Conferences on Diakonia is to deepen the theological understanding and improve the practice of diakonia.
The conferences are inspired by key themes in the LWF handbook on diakonia, Diakonia in Context, which was published in 2008. The 1st LWF Virtual Conference on Diakonia was organized and hosted by the LWF in 2013, with the theme: “Stand up and Walk” (Mk. 2). A follow-up conference “Called to be transformed and transforming” was conducted in 2014.
Focussing on “Management for Effective Diakonia” this year’s conference aims at strengthening capacity for diakonia and project management at various levels in the LWF Communion.
